In Auckland we spent two wonderful “rest days”. I thought there would not be much to say about them, but looking back they are worth a post of their own after all.
With magnificent timing, the blog KRAUTKOPF published a post about culinary highlights in Auckland on the very night we arrived in the city. We picked out the café Little&Friday for our breakfast – wow!

After that it was anything but restful – we urgently needed a few gear upgrades:
- new shoes for Jan
- new insoles for me
- a bigger cooking pot
- new shorts for me
- …

For two nights we had rented a little house with the other walkers slightly north of Auckland.

And what do we get up to on our rest days?
relax – eat – sleep – repeat

I was very industrious as well, though, sewing up the hole in my shoe, repairing my pillow, preparing my find from Ninety Mile Beach for my pack…

Jayme and Brighid were already preparing their resupply for the South Island – dehydrated food for four weeks, sent ahead in four parcels. Luckily we still have time for that until we are in Wellington. The two of them have only three months for the Te Araroa, though, and are therefore skipping part of the North Island.

And then the preparations for our Thanksgiving feast began!

Our first Thanksgiving!
